Superintendent’s Update to Ukiah Unified Families - April 24, 2020

Aeries Parent Portal

It is essential that we are able to communicate with families during this unprecedented time. If you have not received recent communications from me, or want to receive them in a different way, please log in to the UUSD Aeries Parent Portal and update your contact information. Please make sure and sign up for email.  If you need help, contact your student’s school for assistance.

Remote Learning

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to work to provide our students with the best learning environment possible through remote learning! Please visit www.uusd.net and click on the Remote Learning Tab on the top of the page to see a variety of resources we have prepared to assist families. Check the UUSD Facebook page frequently for remote learning tips, and you can always call UUSD’s Remote Learning Hotline at 707-472-5003 if you have questions.

In collaboration with school leaders and staff, we have created the Secondary Temporary Grading Policy to support our secondary students and staff during remote learning. The grading policy details the process in which grades will be assigned at the secondary level for the Spring Semester for high schools and 4th Quarter for middle schools for the 2019-20 school year.  Secondary school progress reports will be mailed next Friday, May 1.

Anyone wishing to purchase Chromebook insurance has until May 6, 2020. $24 will insure a UUSD Chromebook for the rest of the year. Follow this link to sign up.

Social-Emotional Health

If your child is having difficulty dealing with this stressful situation, don’t hesitate to reach out for help. For children in our Ukiah Unified schools, you can call your child’s school or e-mail the school counselors for support. If you are unable to reach your child’s school, you can call UUSD’s Remote Learning Hotline at 707-472-5003. The County of Mendocino has a Warm Line for community members to call for non-crisis, emotional support at 707-472-2311. And finally, in a crisis, please call the Mendocino County Crisis Hotline at 855-838-0404, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Annual Ukiah Unified Parent Survey

Your feedback is incredibly important to us.  On Monday, you will receive an invitation to participate in our annual parent survey.  As you take the survey, please give your responses based on the time that students were physically at school.  We appreciate your input!

Meals will be served one time each week on Monday

Five days of meals will be provided on Monday, April 27, 2020. Meals are served at six Ukiah Unified schools including Ukiah High School, Oak Manor, Eagle Peak, Grace Hudson, Yokayo, and Pomolita, from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. We will also be delivering meals by bus. Please visit www.uusd.net and click on the link next to the yellow school bus to see delivery times and places. Check the routes each Monday because we are adjusting them to serve our families better.

Please remember that we now require those who receive meals to have proof that their child resides in our community such as a report card, student ID, letter, or email from a school. If children are present, no proof is needed. We urge you to take only what is needed for your children.

Thank you so much for your continued support.  I will be communicating with our families weekly during the remote learning period.
