Superintendent’s Update to Ukiah Unified Families: September 25, 2020

I was so excited last week when I was on a walk in the late afternoon because off in the distance, I heard a baseball bat smacking against a baseball. When I rounded the corner toward Anton Stadium, I heard music playing, the laughter of young people, and Coach/Teacher Aaron Ford’s encouraging voice! Aaron is supporting UHS students after school for baseball conditioning. Additionally, I enjoyed seeing Pomolita Teacher and UHS Volleyball Coach Amanda Brown, supporting a small group of students in Vinewood Park two days a week through volleyball conditioning. The smiles on the young people’s faces participating in these in-person after school programs are priceless.

Activities like these are essential to our students’ well-being, and I am so grateful that we can now safely offer some in-person extracurricular and academic support after school. Please stay tuned for opportunities to take part in one of these programs.

Distance Learning Survey - Please complete by Monday, September 28: We value your input! Below is a link to a survey, which allows you to provide feedback on Distance Learning. This 10-minute survey is vital to our understanding of how our Distance Learning program is working for your family so far and what can be improved. We will share the results of this survey with District leadership and staff to learn, improve, and make changes to our program.

Census Deadline - September 30, 2020: I would like to urge all parents and guardians to complete the census. Without accurate census data, we may not qualify for many of the grants that fund vital things like our Career & Technical Education programs, and others that help provide professional development for our teachers, or the free school lunch program. The census is critical; the results will control our funding for the next ten years!

The census does not ask about immigration status. It is confidential and simple to complete; your identity remains anonymous. Any information you provide on the census is protected by law and cannot be shared with anyone or any other federal agency. Here are three easy ways to complete the 2020 Census:

  1. Online at my2020census.gov
  2. By phone at 844-330-2020, 844-468-2020 for Spanish, or 707-757-6504.
  3. By mail, if you received a paper form

Thank you for supporting your student and our staff!  Your partnership is so important to us.  Please reach out to your school for assistance, or call our District Hotline at 707-472-5003.
