Superintendent’s Update to Ukiah Unified Families: October 23, 2020

Halloween BBQ and Harvest of the Month: Wednesday, October 28th, the hauntingly amazing Food Service team (along with the awesome ghouls and goblins from Transportation and Grounds) are cooking up something special for the children of our community.  From 12:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., we will be distributing barbecued meals, pumpkins, and some Halloween treats, along with the standard food distribution, to every child 18 and under.  We encourage children to come in costume, and everyone working will be decked out in their Halloween best!  Please be aware that we will not be distributing food in the morning.  You can find recipes and information about pumpkins and our Harvest of the Month program by clicking here.

Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS): If severe weather threatens a portion of our electric system, it may be necessary for PG&E to turn off electricity in the interest of public safety. Distance learning depends on electrical power. In the event of a PSPS, we will stop distance learning while the power is out and start again as soon as possible after power resumes. We have two extra days built into our school calendar to make up days lost due to a PSPS.  We will make any announcements about PSPS and the interruption of distance learning on our Facebook Page, website, phone calls, emails, text messages, and radio stations. Please stay tuned as we see what this weekend holds.  If it becomes necessary to close schools, please make sure your children continue to read and get outside to PLAY!

Technology Help: We have set up a Google Meet where our technical support staff will assist families virtually.  Go to meet.google.com/nvp-dpxi-uct anytime from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can also call our Technology Support Hotline at 707-472-5074 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  Click Here for Technology Login Instructions

In-Person Learning Survey: Next week, we will send out a survey to families asking your preference when we return to an in-person learning model. This survey is crucial to help us finalize our plans for our return to in-person learning when local health conditions allow.

Please stay safe this weekend and pay attention to your own well-being.  The stress level in our own households is high - please do something to take care of yourself this weekend - a walk, a good book, uninterrupted time with your family, etc... As always, please reach out to your school for assistance, or call our District Hotline at 707-472-5003.
