Superintendent’s Update to Ukiah Unified Families March 12, 2021

As predicted, the Mendocino County Case Rate numbers were under 7 this week, which continues to put us on target for our projected Grades 7 - 12 reopening date of March 18.  If the Mendocino County Case Rate is less than 7 next Tuesday, the county will be moved to the Red Tier, and we will be able to reopen with a hybrid model as planned on March 18.  Here is a link to the state website: https://covid19.ca.gov/state-dashboard/. If you are choosing the in-person model and have not yet heard which days your child will be attending school in person, you will be hearing later today. Of course, reopening depends on local health conditions, which can change quickly. We are so excited to be welcoming our students back to school in person!

Thank you to everyone for your patience and sacrifice throughout this process. I truly appreciate our ability to work together as a community to do whatever it takes to support our students! We value our partnerships with Mendocino County and the City of Ukiah. We are thankful for the great news regarding vaccinations and COVID-19 numbers nationwide. I’ve been energized and have renewed hope for our bright future. We’re almost back, Ukiah Unified!

Annual Family Survey We need your feedback to ensure that we continue to provide high-quality, rigorous learning experiences that meet our students' needs, so we have sent out our yearly Family Survey. We value your input and are committed to the academic success of our students! Please click here to take the survey. The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete, and the results will be used to guide our work over the coming years.

COVID-19 Testing We are excited to offer COVID-19 Testing for any Ukiah Unified student. COVID-19 Testing is not mandatory, but families are highly encouraged to participate! If you have not registered yet, please do so here. https://www.primarybio.com/a/uusd You will need to know the Student ID number for each child to sign up. We administer 15-minute rapid antigen tests. Students swab their own noses under guidance from District staff.

Secondary Sports Update The updated California Department of Public Health guidance on youth indoor sports allows that teams can return to competition if they adhere to stricter requirements, including rigorous testing around each sport and competition. Students who are involved with indoor sports will be tested daily. Students involved in outdoor sports will be tested weekly. View the complete UUSD COVID-19 Plan for Secondary Athletics here. If you have any questions about athletics, or if your child wants to get involved in a sport, please visit https://ukiah.bigteams.com/ or email Ukiah High School Athletic Director Stephen Summers at [email protected].

If you need assistance, please first reach out to your child’s school and then call our District Hotline at 707-472-5003.  Thank you very much for everything you do to support our students, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
