Happy Friday, Ukiah Unified! The holiday break starts on Monday and will continue for the entire week. Classes begin again on the following Monday, November 29. As we all reflect on things we are thankful for, I want to thank you. I am so grateful for our amazing families and everything you do for our students. We have worked through many challenges over the last few years, and we did it together.
Ukiah Unified will not conduct COVID-19 testing over the Holiday Break. We will begin testing again on Monday, November 29, and we encourage everyone to get their children tested on Monday morning after the break. School sites will be COVID-19 testing on Monday morning and you can get tested at the District Service Center from 7:00–8:30 a.m. We are committed to student and staff safety, and getting tested after the break will help limit any potential COVID-19 cases in our schools due to holiday gatherings.
Measure A I want to thank voters again for approving Measure A in the March 3, 2020, election! Measure A funds make critical repairs and updates at Ukiah Unified schools and ensure all students have access to safe, secure, and modern classrooms. We have already completed a few much-needed projects, including Heat, Air Ventilation, and Cooling (HVAC) systems and roof replacements at Yokayo Elementary and Eagle Peak Middle Schools. Yokayo Elementary and Eagle Peak also had their paving replaced. At Ukiah High School, the all-weather soccer field is on schedule to be completed in early 2022. More projects, like HVAC and roof replacements at Oak Manor and Nokomis, and shade structures at several schools are coming up. Learn more about Measure A projects.
Free Ukiah Unified Performing Arts Shows This year, all Ukiah Unified students and their families will have free admission to Ukiah Unified performing arts shows. Simply bring your student ID or class schedule, or wear your school spirit shirt to any performing arts show. See the schedule below. A big thank you to our Ukiah Unified trustees for allocating the funding to make this happen!
Walking Classroom Frank Zeek Elementary has been awarded a grant from The Walking Classroom Institute, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to offer “Walk, Listen, and Learn” activities for their 4th through 6th-grade students. During the Walking Classroom, students take brisk 20-minute walks as a class while all listening to the same lesson on headphones. After the walking lesson, teachers and students discuss what they learned. In addition to the apparent health benefits of walking, research has confirmed a positive link between exercise and learning. What a great way to improve physical health and learn at the same time! Thank you, Frank Zeek 6th-Grade teacher Kimberly Scriven, for your hard work getting this grant and your dedication to the health and well-being of our students.
Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) Cards All Ukiah Unified students are eligible for P-EBT. If you have not received a P-EBT card by December 1st, call 877-328-9677. You will first be asked to enter the card number. If you do not have the P-EBT card, wait on the line, and you will receive assistance.
